After. The partially restored resin figurine

This figurine repair project is an example of a “partial” restoration. The jade-like material is actually a somewhat translucent colored resin that has been cast into a complex shape. Translucence helps create the illusion of jade but makes a full restoration difficult, because the break lines are still visible when the restored figurine is inspected closely. The results were still very good and the customer was quite happy.

Some of pieces of the intricate black base were missing. They were sculpted out of hard epoxy and set in place. Owens tends to combine adhesives with mechanical connectors when possible to increase strength. It’s just a matter of time before someone picks up the figurine by its head.

The black base had to be partially re-sculpted to replace missing pieces.

This figurine repair also involved adding a rod to strengthen the neck, since it will likely be lifted by the neck at some point. A white material was used to sculpt missing parts of drapery. Naturally, it was painted to reasonably match the original resin.
