Plaster Relief Repair

BEFORE: A massively damaged plaster relief sculpture

AFTER: The relief is now “stable”. That is to say, it is structurally sound. Also, the surface has been cosmetically restored.

There are hints of greens and reds below the white surface - which the client liked. But they wanted to add another layer of mottled color for an antique look.

Mottled color has been added at the client’s request. At this point, the relief is on an easel so that Owens can better see the surface under various conditions of lighting both artificial and natural.

The plaster relief was secured to a piece of aluminum alloy in order to increase strength and also support hanging hardware. The client asked that Owens engrave a personal note on the back. It was a nice touch, especially since this restored plaster relief was a gift. Naturally, the note has been removed from the photo you see above.

The restored relief now hangs in the client’s home.
