Clay Statue Repair
A Hollow Clay Figure
St. Francis (and his little bird), Before and After
This clay statue of St. Francis was delivered in four pieces with two additional missing pieces that had to be sculpted. It was located out of doors and had a patina created by long exposure to the elements. The client required a complete restoration, so there was to be no evidence of the repair.
The clay statue repair involved adhesives and aluminum pins
Test fitting the arm
Pins for support, prior to clay
The tiny clay bird shown above is a separate element of the sculpture and has a wing-span of about 2-1/2 inches. Aluminum pins were used again to add strength before the missing part was sculpted.
After, with a new hand
The hand shown above was sculpted to match the one on the other side.
After, with no evidence of it being repaired.
The restored clay statue of St. Francis and the bird prior to delivery. It was stronger than it was before - but still just made of clay.
